Modification

Eg. There's potato in your recipe and according to the nutritional values,it has too much carbohydrates and hence, you changed it to other vegetables and as a result, you modified the recipe into a healthier one.

Another eg. your recipe for a drink has too much sugar and thus you lessened the original quantity of sugar. In this way, you also have modified the recipe.

Another eg. If your recipe is called eg. "pepperoni pizzza" and has pepperoni as the main ingredient and you know that it is a type of processed food, you don't modified it into something else cos if you change the pepperoni to something else, the dish won't be called the pepperoni pizza anymore.

Gastric juice:

Hydrochloric acid ( pH=2 ) which activates pepsin and kill germs

Why does starch digestion stops in stomach?

Hydrochloric acid stops the action of salivary amylase

How does the stomach ensure even mixing of food with gastric juice?

Peristalsis. It can also occur in the stomach.

The liquefied and partially digested food in the stomach.

Excess carbohydrates in our body are turned into fats and stored.The fats are used for providing energy only if carbohydrate intake is low.

What are fats?

Fats insulate our body against excessive heat loss.
Fats are also important sources of energy that can provide twice as much energy as carbohydrates.

Examples: Butter, Margarine, Milk, Cheese, Nuts and fatty parts of meat

What are proteins?

Proteins are the main subsatnces used for growth of new cells and the repair of damaged tissues
They also provide energy when the body lacks carboydrates and fats

Examples: fish, meat, eggs, milk, yoghurt, cheese and beans

Before the topic of Digestion, there are some digrams you need to draw which I can't show it here.

Teeth: cut, grind and break food into smaller pieces to increase surface area for enzymes to act on.

Design and Technology

There is homework on the theme " Storage ".

You need to find problems on storage for example, you can't find the book you want cos your room is too messy. Figure out how to solve the problem, who is using the room, what is the problem and what is the situation currently. We were grouped randomly and each member in a group will have to contribute five problems, which makes a total of 15 problems in a group. All drafts or documents of Design and Technology must be in landscape form.

Mathematics

There will be a Math test on this Friday, 6th of February.

There is Math homework from the textbook which is Exercise 2.2.

The questions are Q1(f), Q2(d), Q3(d), Q4(f), Q5(d) and Q9.

Please remember to write down the question numbers and the date too!
